Metal Fabrication
Metal fabrication usually starts with drawings in the shop. Including precise measurements along with that, the next step is the fabrication stage and finally, the installation of the project.
It is the building of metal structures by bending, assembling and cutting processes. The value-added process involves the construction of structures and machines from raw materials.
Metalwork is the process of working with metals to create assemblies, individual parts, or even large-scale structures.
This term covers a range of work from huge bridges and ships to precisely the engine parts and delicate jewellery. Overall the process involves a range of tools, processes, and skills for the engineer.
Processes
Assembling
It is nothing but joining of pieces and is performed by welding, riveting & binding with adhesives, or bending in the method of a crimped seam.
Initially, the starting materials, used for fabrication such as sheet metal, structural steel along with fasteners, flux and welding wire for joining the cut pieces.
Cutting
The process of cutting performed using chiselling, shearing and sawing. Cutting accomplished with a gas torch by pressing a lever on the torch that fire a flow of pure o2 into preheated metal.
It triggers a chemical reason, oxy cutting works on ferrous metals and steel. If you need to cut aluminium, copper, titanium then you need other non-ferrous metals.
Bending
Bending performed using press brakes or hammering and other similar tools. In this modern fabricator company, use press brakes to either air-bend or coin the metal sheet.
Off-line software’s makes programming CNC-Controlled press brakes efficient and seamless.
Raw Materials
Standard raw materials used by the fabricators such as
- Casting
- Welding
- Plate metal
- Tube stock
Fabrication
Fabrication engineering tradespersons cut, shape, join and complete the metal to repair or maintain the metal products and structures.
It may produce patterns or moulds or metal castings. Apply the coating and work with a variety of materials.
Welding Process
It plays a key role in steel fabrication. The machine and formed parts assembled and tack welded into place, re-checked for its accuracy.
Suppose if dual weldments ordered a fixture used to find the parts for welding. Precautions needed to prevent warping of the weldments due to heat ratio.
It includes re-designing the weldment to use fewer welds, using a fixture, covering the weldments in the sand while in the cooling season, and straightening process after welding.
J&J Engineering has over 40 years of experience in welding and metal fabrication, that includes weld stainless steel, aluminium, mild steel, brass, copper etc.
